Mascot for one of the 8th Fighter-Bomber Wing's crack fighter squadrons, "Pinky" is shown taking time out from chewing on her owner's oxygen mask to pose for the camera. "Pinky" is being taken aboard the F-80 "My Gal Myrt" by Lt Sidney R, Mullikin Jr of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Every eager to take advantage of a situation, the feminine "pinky" was heard to say smugly, "every dog has her day".
First Lieutenant Sidney Redd Mullikin, Jr was the pilot of a F-80C Shooting Star fighter interceptor with the 35th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, 8th Fighter-Bomber Group flying out of Suwan AB, South Korea. On October 7, 1951, while strafing enemy positions, he was shot down by Soviet AAA FPN 43769 three miles west of Hyopkye-ri, Chunghwa, North Korea.
Reports on the ground was FPN 43769 was unable to find the pilot. Lt. Mullikin?s status was changed from MIA to KIA sometime later, but his remains have never been recovered.
