The Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon is awarded to military members of the Air Force who are credited with completion of a contingency deployment. "Deployment" is defined as either deployment on contingency, exercise, deployment (CED) orders, or members sourced in direct support (in-theater or out) of expeditionary operations with an overnight away-from-home station. To qualify for this ribbon, individuals must have deployed for 45 consecutive days or 90 nonconsecutive days on a deployed status. Any contingency deployment qualifies, overseas or stateside, regardless of the duty, destination, or location of the temporary duty. There is no time limit to accumulate the 90 non-consecutive days (members keep accumulating contingency Temporary Duty days until they reach 90 days). Only one Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon per deployment is authorized, regardless of the number of consecutive days over 45 the individual deployed, and onmly one ribbon is authorized after accumulating a total of 90 non-consecutive days. The intent of this ribbon is one Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon for each deployment (provided the required deployment days are met). It is not intended to be awarded in multiples corresponding to each 45 consecutive days deployed. Permanent party overseas personnel are not eligible for this ribbon unless they are forward deployed on a contingency deployment. Members on an overseas short tour may receive both the Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon and the Overseas Short Tour ribbon, provided they meet the requirements of both. MoreHide

I was assigned to the 8MMS Spectre Gun Shop Special Operations I see no where here a designation but my shop I have pictures of it I was not assigned to the 408th which was the F-4s at the other end of the base. I only worked Spectre C-130s. Some times when they the 408th had some issues with the Su-23 gun pods we would add support for them. Meeting different cultures and living downtown. Samlar driver would meet me at the gate every night and bring me to work every morning. I enjoyed learning the culture in Thailand. Love the spicy food today.

Memories Wondering why I was there and who cared. Orders where to Ubon Thailand and as the war was winding doWondering why I was there and who cared. Orders where to Ubon Thailand and as the war was winding down they sent crews to Saigon as Civilians (Black time ) That was not recorded. As well as closing of Ubon and moving me to guard the bomb dump 6 miles from the main base every night. So not sure how close the Agent Orange spray carries but I could feel it on my arms. None of these are documented. which I would never do again and return to the US and fight with the VA over wind drift and 500 from the wire. I get all worked up when I hear excuses from them.. Oh yes another thing I was told being a young guy and thinking if i deserve a medal my supervisors would put me in for one..OH NO I WAS TOLD YOU WRITE IT UP AND WE WILL SIGN FOR THE VIETNAM CAMPAIGN RIBBON WELL I WAS STUPID OTHERS GO THEM I NEVER DID.. THANK YOU FOR MY SERVICE.... More
