Worst Moment Going into my second month in country my Wing Commander called me into his office with my Commander to inform me there was a $10,000 on my head. Somebody would pay $10,000 if I was killed-dead! This scared me so much I didn't tell anyone for fear they would try to collect on that bounty. I didn't trust the Air Force personnel with my life.
Another time I was in the shower and bells didn't ring when I noticed the mamason washing clothes every day was not there. Then bullets began piercing the sides of the metal Quonset hut we used for a shower and bathroom. Time stood still as a second magazine of bullets ripped into the building. An Angel must have protected me as I came away with out a scratch.

Other Memories I found a Letter of Commendation dated 18 January 1969 expressing an appreciation for fabricating 9 Maintenance Control Center consoles in the waste basket of my boss MSgt. G. It never made it into my personal records---I still have it.
Another time a 122mm Russian made rocket landed about ten feet from me and went pop instead of BOOM! I was so scared as people ran over to see if I was all right. I was covered with dirt and a piece of shrapnel whizzed past my left shoulder and cut my uniform without even leaving a scratch on me. Another time when an Angel guarded me.
The bomb dump burning from April 27-29 really bothered me too. Looked to me like the Marine side of base was being destroyed.
