He was killed when his B-24J was hit by enemy flak and crashed into the sea between Koror and Babelthuap Islands in the Palaus. His aircraft and the crew's remains, except for 3 who parachuted out and were captured and executed by the Japanese, were recovered in 2004. His commingled remains are buried in Arlington. Other of his remains were cremated and some are buried in Friendly Cemetery, Friendly, WV and some at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Orlando, FL. He is also listed on the Tablets of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Philippines.
