Last Known Activity:
Paul Sebastian Julienne, Jr was born in 1918 in Louisiana. He was a son of Paul S. and Katherine (Catherine) M. Julienne, Sr. The US Censuses 1920 and 1940 show the family residing in New Orleans, Louisiana, while the 1930 US Census has them in Mobile, Alabama.
Julienne attended Louisiana State University as a member of the class of 1940, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Delta fraternity. No records have been located to show he graduated; all records seem to prove he left in 1939.
No enlistment data has been located. Given his age, and rank, 1940 would be a assumable date of entry. His first appearance in the military record is in 1942 when he is listed as a member of the 352nd Bomb Squadron in Algeria. His possession of the Air Medal with 3 OLC would, at that time, be indicative of at least 20 missions flown.
On May 10, 1943, his crew was assigned as part of a formation to bomb targets in Sicily. As the aircraft departed the IP for the bomb run, it exploded in mid-air. The cause was (possibly) a flak hit in the open bomb bays. Only 1 parachute was seen, and only 1 crew member survived, taken as a prisoner.
Evidently, some of the bodies were recovered, as Captain Julienne is recorded as being buried in the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery in Nettuno, Italy in Plot F, Row 3, Grave 15.
