Colonel Harley Boyd Pyles served with the 20th tactical Air Support Squadron, 6250th Tactical Air Support Group (505th), 13th Air force.
Then Major Harley Pyles and Marine Captain Winfield W. Sisson (aerial observer) were listed as MIA after their O-1E (#56-2600) when down while on operations out of Kham Duc Special Forces Camp en route to Da Nang AB while leading a flight of helicopters carrying ARVn troops into enemy territory.. They were flying in low level cloud and rainy weather at the time of their loss.
Their remains were found and repatriated in July 2001.
Col Pyles was interred in Arlington National Cemetery, Secion 60, Site 7911.
