He was on an HH-53B that was on its way to rescue the crew of an F-105G that had been shot down in North Vietnam. The helicopter exploded when hit by a missile fired from a MiG-21; none of the 6 men aboard survived.
This Veteran has an (IMO) In Memory Of Headstone in Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial, Hawaii as well as one in Crown Hill Cemetery, Knox, Indiana.
