------- From Rich Hopka AFTWS Historian: boots date 1 Dec 68 7th Air Force 504th Tactical Air Support Group 19th Tactical Air Support Squadron
-------- MSB note 6 Aug 09: The death of this airman is unusual in that I could find no record of any other casualties in an incident of any kind on or around that day, unit, or place. For a single/solo NCO airman of that era to die in an air crash by himself is unusual in itself. He is not listed as a casualty by the FAC Association, nor is any aircraft tail number immediately available. I can only conclude provisionally that the circumstances of his loss remain unclear so far, to me.
Rec'd 23 Dec 2012:
I just found the remembrance you posted for my dad, Mack Boblett. Although I was very young when he died, I can explain what happened on that last flight. As I understand it, the mission was to drop flares. One of the flares exploded prematurely and hit my dad in the head. He was the only one injured, there was no crash. Thank you for posting the remembrance for him, hope this clears up what happened and why there were no other casualties.
