Then Major Hestle was a pilot of an F-105F aircraft that was hit by anti-aircraft fire over North Vietnam and crashed. He was promoted to Colonel while listed as MIA. His remains were identified Jun 22, 2017 and were interred in Arlington on Apr 13, 2018. He is also memorialized on Court A of the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. In addition, a marker is in place at the Los Angeles National Cemetery, Section MA Row A site 9.
