Comments/Citation:

On July 17, 1970 he was the Flight Engineer of the C-47A 43-15583 when it crashed in Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam as the result of engine failure during a training flight. They were attempting to land when it crashed and burned. Johnson was critically wounded in the crash and succumbed to his injuries eight days later.

Major Edward Lloyd Arthur McGrew of the 31st Combat Support Group was acting as Pilot and Aircraft Commander and was killed in the crash.
